Rema, DJ YK Mule, others name winners at Beatz Awards

The eighth edition of the Beatz Awards, held on Saturday night at Muson Centre in Lagos, was all glitz and glamor, with Rema, Bella Naija, DJ YK Mule, and others winning prizes in various categories.

News24 Nigeria reports that the evening was presented by fast emerging comedian Akuidolo Orevaoghene, often known as Forever, and actress Alexis Ukpabia, who delighted attendees with jokes and entertainment.

“The Octave” is the topic of the awards.

Divine Ikubor, better known as Rema, a Nigerian rapper and afrobeats sensation, was named best songwriter.

Universal Music’s Disc Jockey Nanayate Abedoh, known as DJ Nana, was named female DJ of the year, while Blaise Beat was named Afro Highlife producer of the year.

MTV Base was named Entertainment Cable of the Year, Sliverbird Television was named Entertainment Television Station of the Year, and Cool FM was named Radio Station of the Year.

Wole Adesanya, also known as Mr Wols, is a music educator and the Chief Executive Officer of blueflamemedia21.

For the second year in a row, Bella Naija, a lifestyle, entertainment, and fashion website in Africa founded by Uche Eze, won Best Blog of the Year, while Shuga Band, owned by Akinloye Tofowomo, known as Akin Shuga, won Best Life Band.

Tosan Wilshare was named Best On-Air Personality, Sean Okeke was named Best Artiste Manager of the Year, and Gorilla Boy was named Best Music Video Director.

Saszy Afroshii was named Female Producer of the Year, while Magicsticks was named Male Producer of the Year.

Marvin Record received the Best Record Label award, AudioMack received the Best Music Streaming Platform award, and Timi Jay received the Best Mixing and Mastering Engineer honor.

In addition, Mr Soul earned Afro Pop Producer and Don Jazzy New Discovery Producer of the Year consecutively, Busy Pluto won Afro Hip-Hop Producer of the Year, Deey Asso won Afro R&B Producer of the Year, and P. Prime won Afro Beat Producer of the Year.

Earlier, the Beatz Awards’ Chief Executive Officer, Elijah John, stated that the event would recognize and honor the great achievements of the creative brains behind music production, business, and distribution.

John, who praised sponsors for believing in the Beats Awards, explained that it is a Nigerian music award ceremony that debuted on November 15, 2015.

“The Nigerian music industry is not just a sound, it is a movement fueled by passion of producers who meticulously craft each note.

“The distributors ensure our melodies reach every ear, executives navigate the industry’s complexities and transform challenges into opportunities.

“The Beatz Awards as a platform takes pride in recognising the holistic growth of the music industry.

“This is not just about the artists, but the holistic growth of the music industry and the entire ecosystem that breathes life into the melodies we hold dear,” John said.

John noted that there was improvement compared to the seventh edition adding that over 1, 500 entries were received for the 25 categories of the awards.

“For the female producers, we had a good number of turnouts which is quite impressive and for overall, we had over 1, 500 entries for the 25 categories,” he said.

He disclosed that the ninth edition of the awards would come up on Nov. 16, 2024.
