Timipre Sylva, the All Progressives Congress candidate for governor of Bayelsa State in the November 11 election, has responded to a comment attributed to former President Goodluck Jonathan.
News24 Nigeria reports that Jonathan remarked on Friday that if Governor Duoye Diri, the People’s Democratic Party’s candidate, had not been reelected, he would have relocated his mother to Abuja.
Jonathan praised the governor for addressing the state’s insecurity challenge during a visit to Diri in Yenagoa.
However, in a post on his X handle on Saturday night, Sylva called the former President’s remark “unfortunate.”

He said : “Former President Goodluck Jonathan’s statement is unfortunate. I sincerely hope he was misquoted. Let me just quote our respected Wole Soyinka: “you can take the hippopotamus out of the swamp but you cannot take the swamp out of the hippopotamus”.
