Gov Uzodimma finally reacts to ‘attack’ on NLC president, Ajaero

Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo state, has accused Joe Ajaero, president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), of interfering in state politics.

According to reports, Uzodimma was accused by organized labour of collaborating with the state’s Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Barde, to “abduct” their president.

Earlier in the week, Ajaero accused the Imo State administration of “violating the rights of Nigerian workers in the state,” and pledged to mobilize members of the state’s union for a total strike.

The Imo state government responded by saying Ajaero’s presence in Owerri, the state capital, to organize a protest was a violation of a court order.

Ajaero was alleged to have been arrested by Imo State Police Command officers on Wednesday while spearheading a protest in the state.

The leadership, however, claimed that he was just rescued from a mob and placed in protective custody.

In a viral video, Ajaero was seen seated between two men while being rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Owerri.

Uzodimma who spoke after receiving the All Progressives Congress’ flag from President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja on Thursday, November 2, said: “What has happened in this ugly coincidence is that the National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress is from Imo State and has not been able to demarcate the difference between being a national leader of an organisation and then an interested party in local politics.”
